Las Vegas original Bally 831H Slot Machine. In 1968, Bally introduced the Model 831, the first three line payout slot machine.

The multi-coin, multi-line slot machine is still the standard today, 50 years later. Needless to say, with these innovations, Bally took over the slot business and drove the giants, Mills and Jennings, virtually out of the business. A few years later it was placed in a storage unit until 2016 when it came to me.

I do not have any documented proof that this machine was in any particular casino just my my friends account and I helped get it from the storage unit. This is an "electromechanical" machine, kind of a hybrid between the older purely mechanical slot machines and the modern computer circuit board machines we have today.

There are no circuit boards or other modern electronics in fact I only saw one big resister about the size of half of a AAA battery. In a sense "Frozen in Time" it came to me with a hopper about half full of nickels all dating from 1960's through 1980's. It's long term storage kept it safe and dry but did take its toll on functionality since these early electromechanical machines with their hundreds of contacts and solenoids required constant cleaning and lubrication when they were in service.

I have restored and reconditioned a wide range of mostly mechanical appliances and other vintage items and this machine was one of my most daunting challenges. I could go on for pages as I learned functionality and refurbished this classic machine. I say refurbished rather then repaired since there actually was nothing broken or worn out on this machine. There were switches and lights that didn't work, contacts that needed cleaning, mechanical movements that required cleaning and lubrication. Video of machine in operation.

I play this machine on a weekly basis and everything works perfectly. The only drawback to this machine is its weight at an estimated 400 pounds. The other being that although I do not consider this machine delicate it is old and quite complex with its hundreds of points, contacts and moving parts something might happen to make it arrive at its new home in less then condition described which would not be acceptable. Machine also comes with original maintenance manual. The item "Vintage Bally 1968 MDL 831H Las Vegas Nickel Slot Machine Restored Fully Working" is in sale since Sunday, September 2, 2018.
