Unlike the other machines I know of, this one is complete and it works. You have an option of inserting one nickel and when the handle is pulled, an aluminum shield is electrically dropped in front of the reels.

When the reels stop, the shield retracts and the combination is shown. This was designed to circumvent anti-gambling laws of the thirties. According to the legend, from one to 10 packs are allowed to be delivered by pulling the proper handles. The cigarette packs are facsimiles (carved out of wood with labels attached).
