For Sale - 1920's Sheffler Brothers, Los Angeles, 5 cent coin operated counter-top trade stimulator for Bell Fruit Gum. Nickel goes in the slot and catches, you push down the lever. The nickel shows in the window. If you lose, the nickel drops in the kitty. If you win, I assume the top is released and you get some gum. The nickel drops but the wheels only spin for a brief while. I think it needs lubrication. Not 100% sure the scenario completes but the wheels spin and the nickel appears in the window. Unit is cast iron and wood. This is an early or less expensive model I believe. It has been painted and much of the paint is chipping. The bottom of the unit is missing a section of the oak board that constitutes the bottom. When I acquired the piece, the bottom was removed. The two sections of the bottom that I had were reattached using the original nails.
NO WORK OR RESTORATION HAS BEEN DONE TO THE PIECE. IT IS ORIGINAL AND AS FOUND. All glass is intact, no cracks, and mechanisms work. One of the tin wheels that has the fruits on it has separated at the joint, and thus the paper label was torn.
I do not have a key for the door on the back. Please see photos for images of the actual item. A quote will be provided. The unit is 15"H x 13"W x 10.5D. It weighs a little over 23 lbs.
