5c Antique Slot Machine 1920s Mills Operator Bell with Pace Jackpot Conversion
This is a 1920s-vintage Mills "Operator's Bell" slot machine, with a vintage Pace jackpot conversion. As far as gooseneck-type mechanical slot machines go, this one plays as well as any of them. Very solid feel, not the slightest bit worn out, it will outlive us all. It plays with nickels, works well and does all of the smaller payouts correctly, but the jackpot is not operational. Several parts would need to be fabricated for the jackpot to work (not easy to figure out if you don't have a similar machine to look at). This is an earlier conversion, before Pace was using the regular Comet-style jackpot. (Please study the photos), but again, it works great like it is and makes all of the other non-jackpot payments just fine. The machine has great curb appeal. Very good original paint and nice patina.
The oak cabinet has probably been refinished at some point. Check out the vintage owner's mark stamped into the front corner of the base. This machine is a great candidate for a restoration, but it has a great antique look as it is. It has the correct original early back door with a modern replacement lock which needs adjustment to make it easier to lock closed.
